I'm new to Cisco and would greatly appreciate any help that any of you may be able to lend me. I purchased a used 1721 with an ADSL1 wic. I've been tearing my hair out on this one most of the day now trying to get in... I cannot reset this 1721 using the Cisco troubleshooting guide or reccomended procedure. The results I get are below and the "Configuration Register" I get is 0x2102. I take this as "Break" is not enabled but I also cannot enable it! If I power down the router for the reccomended 5 seconds and then power on and within 60 seconds send a break to go into "rommon" nothing happens, break does go through but it gets me right back to "router>". Just about any other command I enter except "Show Version" goes to "translating Bla Bla Bla domain server(255.255.255.255)" as you see below. I hope that some of you may have run into this before... actually I hope not, this is a pain! Basically I am stuck in the muck right now!!

Thanks in advance for any help!
Mark

P.S. I have pulled the WIC ADSL card out. I do have Cisco Config Maker version Ver 2.6 and it does find the router but asks for a "Priveledged Password".

Download Tera Term---the break sequence for it works every time (ctrl-b).
Also, it's trying to translate "show version" because that command is not available at the
router>
prompt. The command is like this...
router>en
router#sh ver

with the "#"...it looks things up when something is mistyped or that command is not available at that level---it treats it as if you were trying to telnet to a dns name. You can disable this (after you do the password recovery, of course) by doing this
router>en
router#conf t
router(config)#no ip domain lookup

Thanks for the tip Burt!! Will download Terra Term and get back with the results tommrrow.

Burt, You were right! Tera Trem 3.1.3 worked beautifully. I still could not send a "Break" command from the keyboard but the program drop down "Break" command functioned perfectly. I've since gone in and re-set the passwords and will work on the ADSL wic tommrrow.

Thanks for your suggestion and help!!!
