Can't Replace Nor Delete File

I backup my "Favorites" directories onto an external disk drive. When I went to replace the backup directories with the current "Favorites" directories by "copy", Windows decided that one of the directories on the backup disk was "corrupted". It will not let me replace the directory, nor rename it to some other name so that I can copy the current files there. [I do not want to change my directory naming convention by renaming the current directory so that I could copy it as a "new" directory.]

Can someone tell me how I can get around this awful Windows code and delete this supposedly "corrupt" directory (or rename it) so that I can back up all of my current directories?

Thank you.

first thing to do would be to run chkdsk c: /f from the run box (substitute correct drive letter if not C:)

you will probaby have to let it schedule it for the nest reboot

reboot, and let chkdsk try to fix the corruption - if it finds files that are referenced but have no name associated (simplified explanation) you will find some CHK0001.chk files - you would probably want to delete them, as they would take a lot of work to load them, read them, and decide what file it was part of.

when this process is done, you should them be able to delete the folder/files
