Can't remove white bkgd from masked copy when exported to Corel Draw

When I mask a portion of an image and copy or cut it, to import into Corel Draw, it pastes into Corel Draw with a white bkgd. How can I get rid of this white bkgd so that I am left with the contoured cut or copied image?

You can either export from Paint as a Gif and select the background colour to be transparent (if the background is a solid colour).

Or, you can trace around the parts of your image that you want to keep, put that mask onto a new layer and delete the background layer. This way you can save it as a Photopaint file and import it into Draw.

The second option will give you a better quality image as gif's are only good for solid colours.

Paint has tools that will help select the parts of the image you wish to keep. Play around with the Magic Wand and Lasso tools, they save heaps of time.

Make sure you keep a backup copy of the origional image.

Better late than never! ;-)
When you copy & paste an object, it is going to the windows clipboard, and the clipboard does not support transparencies. This is why you are getting the white rectangle.

A third option would be to use the Bitmape Color Mask option in Draw. It is under the "Bitmaps" menu. This feayure allows you to select a colour (OK, I'm from Canada) or multiple colours and make them transparent.
