I am trying to remote into a server, I enter the name in the Remote Desktop Connection window and it tries to establish the connecction but after few seconds i get a message "It couldnot connect to the remote computer". When i go the server physically , it is running fine. Plz help.

Yes, Terminal Services are set to automatic and running.

Is TS configured for Remote Administration or Application mode?

Can you telnet to the server on port 3389?

I hope you find this post helpful.

TS is configured to remote administation, how do i telent to port 3389.

Have you checked to make sure that it is allowing connections? Check the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\fDenyTSConnections

The value should be 0

Start, Run CMD <enter>
Telnet Servername 3389 <enter>

If you get an underscore response you are connected. Press enter to terminate the connection.

I hope you find this post helpful.

If the server is located outside your local LAN then you must make sure that port 3389 is opened up on your firewalls.

Start at the beginning: can you ping the server? The error message that you're getting can mean that either the server couldn't be reached or that it's not accepting connections. So first make sure that you actually have connectivity to the server. Then start looking on the server for issues.

deekap,

You say you are entering the name. Is there a DNS problem? Try entering the IP address of the server instead of the name when you use Remote Desktop.
