I just installed an 80 gb drive. I made it the master and my current 20 gb the slave. I then copied all files from the slave to the master. After rebooting, the system works fine and everything looks okay on my new master drive (c:);however, the system doesn't recognize my slave drive (d:). What should I do? I'm using Windows Me.
Thanks,
jnix

remove your cdrom drive(s) from device manager
and then shut down and disconnect them. Re start with them disconnected. If your slave shows up then shut down and re-connect your cdrom drive(s) and restart.

That didn't work. When I reconnected, I also lost my CD-RW drive. I finally reformatted my slave drive and now it's recognized. Do you know how I can get my CD-RW (F) recognized again?
Thanks,jnix

Where was you cdr cabled before you put the
20gig to slave? What else is cabled with the cdr
and did you change the jumper settings on cdr and
remaining drive to their respective postions?
ie: master,slave,cable select

I didn't change any cable connections or jumper settings on the cdr. The cdr shows up on My Computer, but when I click on it , it asks me to insert a disk. After I insert a disk, it still asks me to insert a disk.

If you have other devices attached that use drive letters
ie: camera, zip drive then disconnect them so drive letters
can be re-assigned correctly. Letters E: F: and G: appear
to be currently out in limbo.

I changed the drive letter to F:, so I now have c: and d: as hard drives, e: as a zip drive, that's not attached, f: as the cd-rw that doesn't work and g: as a cd-rom that works fine. In My Computer the cd-rw is shown as drive f:; but when I try to access it , I keep getting messages to insert a disk.
HELP!

Which one of the Cdrom's is jumpered as Master?
Also, the easiest way to do this is to remove
the Zip Drive, CDRom and CDRW from device manager.
Then shut down, and cable just the Master Cdrom
first and restart. That would become E:
Then shut down and cable the Slave Cdrom with it
and restart. That would become F:
Don't go to device manager and reserve drive letters. Leave
that alone. Let your Zip drive (Which I am assuming is USB)
grab G: as needed.
