can't read from external usb hd

i'm using a 2.5" hard disk as an external usb harddisk. It's been working fine till it fell down. Since then i can't read anything from it. When i try clicking it, i get error that the hard disk is not formatted! I tried to format the hd since i have another copy of the data on it, but it can't be formatted. Any one can help me what to do to get it working again? Thanks a lot on advance !

If it took enough of a shock, it won't be a recoverable drive. It's a good thing that georgesamb has a backup of the data.
