Hi

I have shared a HP Deskjet 1125C printer connected to LPT1. It prints fine from the machine it's shared from. I can also add the printer to other machines no problem but when they print to the printer it comes up with a message "an error has occured while printing to hpdesk etc"

I tried reinstalling the printer and all the other obvious things. But am now at a loss - I can't understand why the others will not print when they have no trouble seeing the printer on the network.

Any ideas?

Thanks

You will need to capture the printer port. There should be a button on the Details screen to do this. You will just need to put in the path to the printer. Example "\\PCname\printer_share_name"

Hi,

Another point that if you are using old DOS apps, you will need to map the printer to an LPT port, then let the application print to this - Windows then intercepts the connection and forwards it to the host machine.

I have a network printer mapped to an LPT port on a network workstation which I want to unmap so I can use the local LPT1 for a different printer - the DOS program for which it was mapped no longer requires the direct link so I want to free up the port but the setting is rewritten when I logon after removing the setting using net use lpt1 /delete. How can I do this?

Thanks.

Hi,

You should be able to go to the printers control panel, right click on the network printer and adjust the properties so it goes to a different port or is just accessible via its UNC name.
