Can't Print + "Handle is Invalid" + "Internal Error"

I have been unsuccessful in trying to print from any programs, although nothing else suspicious has been noted. The following is what happened as I tried printing from various programs:

Opera 7.50 -- Print preview simply provides no response (sometimes shuts down). Straight print attempt = shutdown w/error msg ""has encountered a problem and needs to close"

Notepad -- "Handle is invalid."

IE 6.00 -- Print preview shows, but attempt to print leads to msg "There was an internal error."

MS Word 2003 -- Print preview shows, but attempt to print leads to msg "… cannot … problem with current setup"

Network or local printer?

You errors would make sense if it could not find the network printer.

Local. Generally, if that printer was offline, or otherwise not functioning, I would get an "out of paper" message.
