The problem: PDFs made using Acrobat 5.0 won't print on Lexmark Optra T612 (non-post-script, if I'm not mistaken) - it just humms, whirrs and goes silent while displaying a smug little "Ready" message. A pop-up from our messenger service then confirms that the document has printed. We are reduced to printing as image, which offers meagre quality.
This is a problem we've been having in my office since we moved to XP about a month ago. We had encountered it before under NT 4, but found that redistilling PDFs from Acrobat usually did the trick. This is no longer the case.
The problem is probably not related directly to Acrobat, so please forgive me if this post is slightly out of place. We have the same problem when printing from Adobe PageMaker 7.0, for example. MS Office Suite progammes print fine.
External printers have confirmed that our PDFs are fine for their purposes, so it's just a matter of eye comfort for us, really.
Has anyone had similar experiences? Should we just get a post-script compatible printer (unlikely in the near future)or is there anything that can be done to change the way XP handles post-script files?
Thanks for any input.
