can't print from my laptop on my home printer

my laptop uses windows vista. i've installed my home printer hp photosmart 3100 series.......and nothing. just printer error after printer error. can you please help me? my home computer uses windows xp, is there a conflict? if so, what do i do?

Can you give some more details please. When you say you've installed home printer to Vista machine, do you mean directly connected to machine or is it shared on the XP machine and set up over the network? If over the network, did it just install drivers from XP machine (in which case may not work with Vista). If direct - where did the drivers come from - again you'd obviously need Vista drivers.
