Sound and video files can not be played in Windows. As soon as a file is selected in a folder view, such as .wav, .avi, .mpeg, etc, the preview area of the folder view attempts to open it (which it should) but the window hangs. Trying to play media files in Windows Media Player hangs that as well.
Third party programmes play all media files without problems. My problem is limited to playing files in folder preview or Windows Media Player.
I've tried reverting Windows Media Player to the basic version, I've also removed upgrades. All claims to be fine but the problem continues.

I am computer literate and can follow complicated instruction.

Many thanks,

Adam

Try windows update, you may need some kind of critical update for your media player.

Or

Try setting your media player as default for all media types.

Hope this helps
