Can't Play Data Disk

Hi!

I have a computer that won't play some of my data disks. Before, they could, and they could run 'em just fine as well. Now, however, whenever I put it in, it claims that there's no disk/a blank disk in the F drive, and it's asking me if I want to burn it, or something. What does this mean? Did a virus get into my computer or something?

The data disk includes .AVI video files. Also, it says that it's a DVD formatted one. My computer can play DVDs, and it can play some of my other data disks (also .AVI video files). But there are some that it can't play, as well (which is the problem shown above). I know that the CDs work, since they play on my laptop, but on my desktop...something happened, and I don't know what, nor do I know how to fix it.

Help would be greatly, tremendously appreciated!

Thanks,
Zeph

likely the drive is not working 100% (this happens with optical drives). Might need cleaning or replacing.

(you are cleaning the disks before trying to read them? Making another copy of disk(s) concerned might help - I've seen a fair number of drives read copies when they couldn't read original).
