I have 3 PC's running through a router (finally and thanks to your help) and a cable modem for the internet. I have a fax program on all 3 that needs to ping PC 1 to access it's dial-up modem to send and receive faxes only (Not internet). PC 1 can ping the addresses of itself and the other 2 units but the other 2 can't ping PC 1's address. The other 2 will ping themselves and the router but for some reason can't ping the address of PC 1.

I have searched through all threads relating to "ping" but most of the info is well over my head. Any reasons or suggestions?

Thanks,

I'm still going with a firewall on PC 1. If your high level network connectivity (internet, file sharing) is working right, the only thing that would stop a ping is a firewall.

smah,

Thank was it!!

I found the settings in Norton Personal Firewall to allow access by the other 2 PC's. Now this router (Siemens 2604 4port)says there is a built-in firewall. Should I trust just that or install Norton on the other 2 units for added security?

Thanks again

I'd go for the Siemens firewall as you have it. But you will need to be sure of your knowledge on that firewall. IF you are not then either buy Norton or use ZoneAlarm free.
