Greetings all

I seem to be having a problem one specific computer. I have a small network of 3 XP pro sp2 comps. connected by a 5-port hub. Supposedly the settings are exactly the same on all the computers. Two computers work fine (can share, ping back and forth perfect) but #3 cannot see or ping other two. The other two can't ping #3, but it shows up in network neighborhood. #3 can ping itself.

I've disabled the windows firewalls for all of them.
Any suggestions on where I should start in troubleshooting?..does anyone have a list of troulbeshooting steps I could follow? I've been working on this off and on for a couple weeks :/ any help would be appreciated greatly.

a faulty NIC can cause these issues... if you have one just laying around, may be a worthwhile try to a fix.

One common issue is "hidden" firewall components. Antivirus software often has a hidden firewall; PC-Illan, for example, is notorious for this behavior. VPN client software often has a "hidden" firewall; CISCO VPN client software is notorious for this.

Start your computer and hit F8 early and often, and select Safe Mode with Networking. Does it now ping?
If so, you need to modify the settings for AV or VPN to remove or configure the hidden component.

you need to postively verify that the ip addressing is the same for all with the same default gateway . All units would see each other a a 5 port switch because all you need at that level is a layer 2 mac address to talk to each other . To me sounds like the addressing is not all within the same subnet . check the ip address for #3 and make sure it is the same as the other 2 .
