Hi, one of my users works with .tif files all day long from her email. She is now unable to open them from the attachment. She gets the message "The Command failed to execute". Other file typs do open. If the tif file is saves to the desktop it will open. If you re-boot the pc, a few will open then you get the error again. Here are some specs:

Windows Vista Home Basic SP2
IE8
Program that open tif files: Microsoft Office Document Imaging

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Have her clear out her Temporary Internet Files and all Temp files. If she works with.tif from e-mail all day then that will likely have caused the problem.

I have my Temporary Internet Files to delete on closing (a setting in IE and Firefox) to prevent such issues. I also regularly clear out my Temp files and folders.

Hope this helps.

Yes, if she checks her email from the web then clearing temporary internet files may help. However, if she is using a dedicated mail client such as Outlook, then you'll want to clear the temp files in the Outlook OLK folder. The following link can help you locate that:

More ideas...

1. The Antivirus app that is being used or was once used on this PC may have corrupted something. If AVG was once used, take a look at the solution in the link below. If it is a different Antivirus app, try reinstalling it and then removing it.

2. This could be a problem with IE8. A quick search on the error turned up the following thread that has some suggestions.

My first thought on reading the thread is that her file associations are messed up. Can she open a tif file by double-clicking it in a folder?

Go to a folder with a .TIF file, right click on it, and select "Open With..." and choose the default program.

See if that fixes the issue with opening it from an email.

As said in original post:

Does the involve an Outlook Web Access?

There are to options to connect in OWA, Premium and Basic, have you tried both options?

Sorry, my eyes must have skipped that part. My bad.
