Can't open passworded / read only files

Can't open Word files which are passworded, but available as read only. Used to be able to. What has changed? How can I rectify?

Depends on how they have been saved. You can password a file for edit capability or against being opened altogether.

The file is passworded to prevent edit i.e. available read only. However, if you select the read only option, the file will not open for two particular users, though it will open successfully for others.

I'd be interested to know if anyone found a solution to this, as one of our users is experiencing exactly the same problem! I'm about to rebuild her PC to see if that helps, but I'd rather try something less drastic if it happens again...
