I have a similar problem to the person farther down below "How do you Install Pagemaker?" My computer crashed recently and Windows 98 had to be reinstalled as well as all the programs. All the adobe products have been reinstalled and are opening fine except for Pagemaker which has been reinstalled several times ("successfully" according to the installation program) yet it will not open. It is listed under Programs/Adobe in the Startup menu but if you go to Windows Explorer, only Illustration, Photoshop and etc. show up.

When I try and open Pagemaker I get the following message:

The C:\Program files\adobe\pm6.exe file appears to be corrupt. Reinstall the file, and then try again.

I'm going nuts, there is nothing wrong with the cd (my dad installed cd on his to verify this), why is my computer not installing it? The Computer store that reinstalled windows 98 for me has no idea why this is happening and suggested I might try reinstalling Windows 98. I cannot afford to send my computer back to the shop to do this and I am not sure how to do this myself either or if it would solve the problem. I have a deadline for a publication I was working on and need help fast! Any help would be appreciated and I thank you up and down!

ee PM6.0... that was a real kludge of an app designed to bridge Win3.1 and Win95... it was probably the worst release ever...

First thing I would do is uninstall PM completely. Delete all folders that are associated with PM. You may want to manually clean your registry.

Now remove all .tmp files. Scan Disk. Defrag. Reboot.

Make sure that you have no more than 150 active fonts on your system. Repeat.. make sure you have no more than 150 active fonts.. this is important.. too many fonts WILL cause problems with the install, with running PM and will cause a general slowness of all apps that use fonts such as Photoshop, Pagemaker, Illustrator...

Either reboot into safe mode, or disable all antivirus and screensavers and other window dressing. Do a complete install.

Let us know how this goes.
When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
