Hello

Just got the Adobe CS2 pack.

But have a problem with opening my JPEG images in indesign I can drag them but it messes them up.

And cant open them. actuelly its like that with all files i try too open.

I can only save the files as InDesign CS2 document and InDesign CS2 template and export an Adobe PDF file.

Im what i would like too call a newbie in InDesign so if anyone could help i would appreciate it a lot.

Thanks in advance.

ps.I use windows XP

How does it 'messes them up'?

Are you trying to OPEN or PLACE image files?

Why do you want to save the files as anything other than InDesign or PDF formats? What format do you want out of this?

Have you read the manual about this topic?

They get real small and pixelated,it only shows small squares of color when i drag or place. Cant open any JPEG at all.

I just like to have JPEG's on my pc. Put i can always change them in photoshop or something :)

Cant really find the answer anywere.

Check the forum FAQ for low resolution issues.

If you need assistance, clarify. You are saying that InDesign messes them up and then you say it does not open them. Decide what is really happening and describe it clearly.

What do you mean by saying that you just like to have JPG on your PC?

Have you read the manual about this topic?

As jim has pointed out, you need to clarify what you are trying to do and why.

But firstly, ID cannot OPEN JPGs or any other image formats. InDesign is a layout application that allows you to arrange pics and text. The images should be placed in the layout, not dragged. The recommended format for placed raster images is as a native Photoshop file, or as a TIF. The recommended format for vector images is the native Illustrator file but you can also use EPSs. You can also place PDFs from any application.

JPGs are a web format, and not really recommended for anything which is to be printed (which is the usual reason for using ID). If you use JPGs make sure they are saved at the highest possible quality, otherwise not only will they look pixelated on screen but also in print. Better to stay away from JPGs for this sort of work.

Exactly - what else would you want to do with the layout?

The default display for images is not the highest quality, but this can be activated using the View menu (or a shortcut). This is to save on screen redrawing time when you move between pages.
