Can't Open File Attachments

I'm running Exchange 2000 on a Windows 2000 server box. Some email receipients are unable to open File attachments on emails we are sending out. Word document error = "Invalid path" Excel document error = this file is read-only or invalid. This does not happen on all file attachments. If we resend the file most of the time they are then able to open it. (It seems the file header is getting destroyed in the transfer)

Please help!!!
