Hello! I have Windows 98, SunStar Office and MS Office Bookshelf for Windows 95 Installed on my computer. I use Hotmail.

I can't open email attachments sent to me with the suffixes .email or .doc.

Where do I go to adjust the settings to specify which program opens these attachments?

What are the proper programs to choose to open these?

I appreciate any clues to this perplexing problem!!!
Thanks, suncloud 27

if the attachment came in in Hotmail, save it to your desktop and try open it there.....if you get the dialog box saying what do you want to open this with, select Word. The .doc extension is for Microsoft Word, and should open in this automatically, if not then I dont think you have Word on your PC.
The .email is the actual email that you are looking at in Hotmail, and you dont need to open or save this... Jay~

My new Tae Kwon Do website is up and running!!

HELLO JAY - THANKS FOR REPLYING SO FAST - However, the problem is perplexing BECAUSE: One person is sending me emails and instead of just being able to view them like a normal email, they are coming as an attachment with the suffix .email. I cant open it, Adobe Acrobat tries to open it and it says: FILE DOES NOT END IN PDF - UNABLE TO OPEN.

WHy is Acrobat opening this instead of the correct program?

I do have MS Word. Maybe I should try reinstalling it or something. I thought it should open .doc files automatically also.

Any other clues??

Jay is right, first save the file to your desktop.

Next single click the file to highlight it, then while holding down the shift key right mouse click the file and choose "Open With".

Use the scroll bar to select Word, Notepad etc.
Chech the box "Always use this program to open files of this type"

hope this helps
