Can't navigate away from https: page after logging out

It all started yesterday after upgrading to Firefox 3.6 (or so I think the timing was).

Logged out of GoDaddy web mail and sitting on this page logged out (
I typed in and it said "Authentication Failed. Please try again." as if I were trying to log into the webmail again. but I wasn't I had done this every day for the last year (check web mail first, then go to to tek-tips.com).

I have to go to google or another page and THEN go to Tek-tips. Bizarre. Can't find any matches on the intrawebz.

Tried Coke.com, pepsi.com - same result. BUT, it will go to google.com Now really confused.
 
Well - clearing the Firefox private data and running CCleaner fixed the problem. Now WHY is the real question.
