i just created a photo album that i scanned into my PC. i wanted to copy them on to a USB stick but keeps giving me error messages when i try to copy the files on to the stick.

the error message: Cannot copy "filename". the directory or file cannot be created

any help on this would be appreciated. thank you

Does your USB drive have a little sliding switch that write protects the drive. It is the same principle as old Floppy Disks had. Can you write to another USB drive, or can your current one be written to on another machine?

Are there any Group Policies set that could be making this happen?

If your USB is formatted as a NTFS instead of the usual FAT file system then it might be a security access permission type of problem, but I doubt you have NTFS.

Have you checked your USB drive for errors? chkdsk? it may be developing some problems that prevent it from writing.

Hi,
Can you confirm that NO pictures can be copied, not just the one listed in the screenshot?

I had a similar problem, where it would just stop copying like that, and to tell you the truth I never figured it out...

you may wish to try a program called TeraCopy, it is free for home use...

Can you copy other files to the USB drive. Create a txt file anywhere and copy that.

If that works, create a new one in the same folder as the images and try that.

This has bailed me a few times with USB drives.

I've tried to copy some other files on to the USB drive and that seemed to work just fine. And as for the pictures, it did copy some of them but was hanging up on those odd ones. So i did try a few other USB drives to see if that would solve the problem and was still having the same issue. The solution to the problem was to reformat all the USB drives with a FAT32 file system as the last computer that reformatted them used the FAT file system. Thank you for everyone's help on this one. Especially linney :) BadBigBen thanks for the suggestion of TeraCopy i will have to check that out. Cheers
