I've a friend who's just changed his laptop from a domain to a workstation and now can't login to it. He can't remember any local users for the laptop and so is stuck.

Is there anyone out there who has any ideas how to get back into it ??

Try logging in as the 'admin' user onto the laptop, then depending on the operating system (NT, 2000 etc) you can create a new user name locally, just to get you in.

if the admin password is also unavailable, as per 3229's recommendation, confirm if the wks has actually been removed from the domain. otherwise, simply reconnect the laptop back into the network and log into the domain using the domain admin account. using this account, open user manager for the wks and change the password of the local admin. when done, logoff from the domain and relog using the local admin account. if successful, create local user accounts with the desired privileges.
