A few weeks ago I set up a 3com wireless router to allow 2 PCs access to internet with the help of a friend who knew about the technicalities of setting it up. Everything has been working fine apart from the fact that I can't logon to MSN Messenger. My friend is no longer around to help and I haven't a clue how to sort this out. Can anyone help out (simple instructions please!) The PCs are running AOL9

No, Peter, I've struggled with it for ages and tried various adjustments to the router settings. The router firewall and XP firewall are both disabled. I've tried setting up various ports that Messenger is supposed to use through the router software, but I'm not sure I've done it properly.

Tried AOL helpline - after various setting changes drew a blank.

I would dearly love someone to come out of the woodwork who has had this problem and got a fix!

I've just set messenger up on another pc which didn't have it installed before, works ok. Didn't do anything on the router.
It's my son's pc where it doesn't work. I've told him to uninstall and reinstall, he hasn't worked himself up to do that.
Both pc's are XP pro, neither use aol. Do you get an error message?

Didn't get an error message as such. Just failed to login -kept on churning over but nothing happened!

I think AOL has something to do with this!
