Hi,

Did you create a samba password for the account you are trying to logon with ?

# smbpasswd user1

(Samba uses a different passwd file to the linux system itself)

There are various ways of setting it up but you can use :

security = user
encrypt passwords = yes

In your smb.conf to implement userid based security without acting as PDC. However, if you did set samba up as a PDC you need to get the XP client to 'join' the samba domain by creating a machine account. See -->
Hope this helps

I am using Win XP and logging into Mandrake 8.1 as well. I had the same problem as you and finally got it working. The advice given above sounds like what you need.

Do you have the same login and password on each computer?
Example:

Win XP Mandrake
--------------- ---------------------
Login: test Login: test
Password: testing Password: testing
