Hello, I'm new to solaris. It installed just fine but after the install when it boots up the log in screen appears, No where in the installation did it ask for me to set up a user name and password! But with out them I can't get any further than the log in screen.
I thought I may have missed a part in the installation that had me set up a user name and password, So i reinstalled and still nowhere did it ask for me to set on up. Anyone got any ideas as to how I could fix this?

Hi. I take it you've tried root with a blank password? I think that would be default if you missed the step (or wasn't offered) to create the root account.

I want to be good, is that not enough?

Alternatively, there's a FAQ about booting from CD ROM to alter/rest root's password - always assuming the procedure is the same for Solaris 10.

I want to be good, is that not enough?

yes, you can boot cdrom -sw from the <ok> prompt, once that comes up you should be able to mount up /etc as /a and edit /a/etc/passwd & /a/etc/shadow and comment out any password bits.

I have not done this for a while but I believe this is the syntax for this process.
