hi all,

I installed suse 7.2 on my Computer and I
managed to launch suse only once.
In the Beginning it starts like it should, but
when it tries to start the apache jserv it hangs.

Does anybody know, how to start suse step by step?
Running RedHat would offer the chance to choose
whether to start a daemon or not for each of them
while launching the system, by simply pressing >>i<<.

Is there a similar possibility with suse?

To make things even worse, my computer isn't able
to start with CDrom, and now it refuse to start
with any of my bootdiscs (floppy).

Hey, I would really apriciate any hint...

so thanks in advance

greetings markus

Hi,

I would boot it in single user (maintenance) mode then disable httpd (& jserv if it's there) by editing the /etc/rc.config file. There are lines in that file that deternmine what services are initiated, for example 'START_HTTPD=yes' means start apache. If you change that file manually (rather than via yast/yast2) do a '/sbin/SuSEconfig' command afterwards.

To start in single user mode just append 'linux S' to the lilo boot prompt, i.e.

boot: linux S

It should stop in maintenance mode with a '#' prompt - you are now root. Then edit /etc/rc.config as described above, do 'sync' and 'init 6' to reboot. Hopefully it should not hang after that...

Regards
