Can't join members to new 2008 domain

New 2008 domain server, AD and DCPROMO. Tried to join 2003 Server to new 2008 domain received a network path error. Did some research and fixed issue by adding a SVC record in the DNS. Added 10 xp machines and 2 2003 servers without error. Then tried adding a 2008 server and received same error. Have tried everything I can think of but no joy. Nslookup returns the server name and IP when launched but _ldap._dc... returns "non-existent domain."
Thoughts?
