I just installed SMS 2003 on a Windows 2003 server. I follow the MS Automated Installation by Using the SMS Administrator Console to install SMS Advanced Client, but can’t make it work
1. I did prepare the SMS Site for Client Push Installation by adding a valid remote installation account, Management Point,
2. Enabled Client Push Installation.
3. Ran the Client Push Installation Wizard by right-clicking the collection – All Windows XP System. Bur The Advanced Client doesn’t install on those XP clients.
4. I found a error in CCM.log: Install on DC: False $$<SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER><Fri Sep 29 15:07:54.812 2006 Central Daylight Time><thread=3244 (0xCAC)>

Any Suggestions?

Was this server also a DC? As that is how I am reading the notification "Install on DC: False ". meaning the tic box is not clicked telling it to install a client on a DC.

In the site settings, client installation methods, client push properties, click on the domain controllers option tic box, otherwise it won't install a client on your dc's

That said personally I would never put a sms server on a dc because of the need for IIS, sql and so on, but in a test lab it would be fine.

I also understand sometimes because of costs you just have to.... so I take back my never :-D

Thank you for the details.

1. This is the test server.
2. I don't want to install the SMS on the DC. The client I try to install is XP Pro. I also try to check the domain controller option. It doesn't do any different.
3. Ddm.log has this message: “Will not create CCR. This item is not assigned to this site". I am thinking it is site boundaries issue, but the I ready have IP 192.168.0.0 IP subnet in the boundaries.

Update - OK, found the problem. The client ccmsetup.log displays "Source \\smserver\smsclient\i386 is inaccessible. For some reasons, the smsclient folder is not shared. I shared it manually. Then all clients, windows 2000 and XP, installed the advanced client.

The problem now is the none of clients shows Yes on Collection client and assigned columns. Why and how to do fix it?

Make sure they are in the proper boundaries (either ad site or subnet) If you didnt extend the schema make sure you have wins up and running and the MP SLP and primary site are added to wins. Make sure the command to install the client in the client push installation properties included either SMSSITECODE=AUTO or SMSSITECODE=ABC
ABC would be what ever your site code is.
