The Oracle Universal Installer quits on the second window, when I attempt to load from the extracted files (I downloaded it from technet) to the "Staging" area. Here is the error:
There was a problem in accessing the staging area. Please make sure the specified values for 'Source' and 'Destination' are valid.

Here is the 'Source':
C:\pso\stage\products.jar

Here is the default 'Destination', though I have tried about 15 different destinations:
C:\PSO\STAGE\COMPONENTS\ORACLE.SWD.JRE\1.1.7.24\1\DATAFILES\EXPANDED\JRE\WIN32\BIN\..\\Oracle\Ora81

The Source seems to be working because it expands the .jar for 15 seconds or so, getting to 40%+ before jumping to 100% and failing. Also, if I change the source path, the process fails immediately.

Any workarounds?

Thanks

Kevin

OK, PersonalOracle is not supported on ME, but there is a workaround (read unsupported hack presented for 'testing' purposes only by Oracle). You can set:
Jrew=0x00080000

...in win.ini in the [Compatibility95] section, then change the installed PATH statement in autoexec.bat to use short file names.

This allows the install to complete.

I don't know what to do next though. Hopefully another post will solve that.
