This is a little odd, because I have OpenBSD running on two other, slightly older HP Vectra VE's.

works: vectra VEI8 DT PII 166 or 200
borks: vectra VE Series 8 DT PII 6/350 and 6/266

Symptom: boot from floppy or cd install disks, hardware probe continues until we get to the line:

rootdev= blah rrdev= blah rawdev=blah

Then the install hangs.

I've tried floppy and cd (which I understand has more drivers)

I've tried enabling USB and setting to Plug & Play OS (started out with both disabled)

It's amibios.

Any clues?

try
boot bsd -c
from your boot media
and disable pciide - it will go in bios mode at least for installer

try setting disks to LBA mode (OR CHS)

what is your dmesg (white-on-blue text at boot) - ie what ide controller etc you are using ???
