Our new HP 2300 printer arrived today, set it up and then installed the software to no avail. Printer is set to defaults it came with. Haven't changed anything there.

After multiple attempts at installing the software, here are the errors I'm getting:

1st error (get this everytime install using Setup on CD:
Chosing Local Printer, USB port, shared and default install options.

"Setup Error:
The hp business inkjet 2300 series Setup Program has encountered a severe error and will now exit. Restart your computer and run setup again. "

When I try to install the printer from Windows printer wizard as a new printer, using the driver off the CD, I get this error:

"Windows Found new Hardware Wizard:
HP Business Inkjet 2300 PCL6
An error occurred during the installation of the device.
The printer name is invalid."

Then when I went to the HP website and downloaded the PCL6 driver and installed it using that driver (again from the Windows Add Printer Wizard) I got:

HP Business Inkjet 3200 PCL 5c:
Unable to install printer. You either entered a printer name that is incorrect or the specified printer is no longer connected to the server"

Well, this was the only real clue I got to what was going on.. I downloaded the PCL6 driver --- and Windows thought it was trying to install the PCL 5c driver.

Help anybody???? I haven't found any useful information on HP's website!

Thanks,
Lynette

put the PCL 6 into its own directory...

Settings / Printer & Faxes / Add a printer

Next / Local printer (radio button) UNcheck plug and play

Next / LPT1 / Next / It will now look for a driver .. hit "Have Disk" .. then point it to the INF file that is in the directory that you have the PCL6 driver in.

It will then give you a list of the available drivers in that directory. Choose the normal PCL 6 and not the LS driver.... Then click ok... and just do the motions through the rest of the wiz.

My site has about 30 2300n printers and we've never really had any trouble with them.
