Hello,

I'm new to exchange so i bought a dvd membership and have been watching the instructional videos on the setup and installation. I followed it step by step, but at the end it says not to install it on a DC or Terminal Server, great both a did. So I google how to remove exchange 2003 and insert the install disk and choose remove. Got the company to order a new server windows 2003 plat, dedicated for exchange. Start to go through the motions, run domainprep - worked, run forestprep, error occured, " to install exchange server in a domain, run /forestrun, you must have full exchange administrator rights. OK so i install just the system management tools and find the delegation wizzard and somehow the administrator account was already added, weird, so i removed and readded. Here's some helpful info to, in AD the exchange accounts are still present.
Where to go from here? Can't install without forest prep and cant run forest because i need full exchange admin rights, which i do have. Any advance is much appreciated!

one more note i did not run dcpromo on this new server, should i?

ok ran the dcpromo, the OS is Windows 2003 R2, the Master operations DC was Windows 2003 standard so i had to run the Drive:\CMPNENTS\R2\ADPREP\adprep.exe /forestprep command, everything went fine, AD was installed on what will eb the excahnge box. So we now have AD, i run threw the steps again, run forestprep, bam same error,, need full exchange access rights, ok, i go back to the system manager, delegation wizard and try to remove the users that are alreay there, which are administrator and a user name both with full access. I dont understand, im logged onto the server with domain admin rights, the user is listed as full exchange user and still cant run forest prep

Install DC on a Exchange server is not recommended. Your issue must be caused by something else....

I think you must be the enterprise admin to run /Forestprep. Have you verified this? Or you can create a new account, adding it into Domain admin and Enterprise admin group, and then install the exchange using this new account. Hopefully this works.

You have to be a member of schema admins to do the forestprep and domainprep.

yes i did create a second account called exchange admin and added it to the schema admins and had to install system manager for exchange to delegate the account to the full exchange admin, still cant run forest prep, i think i might just have to call MS?

I called Microsoft, the AD was corrupted using that command in the post above, i should of removed any old exchange containers
