Windows Update brought IE7 down onto a Windows 2003 server. Ever since I am unable to install any other applications on the server.

Each attempt gives a "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." error.

Uninstalling IE7 does not resolve the problem.

Any help out there !!!

Go into Add Remove Programs, the Windows Component section. You will see a New IE Security section. Uncheck it and move through the wizzard. This will remove this.

Basically part of the new IE7 security prevents applications from being executed from a network share. But this only happens on the server OSs.

Mrdenny,

This option worked on another Win2k3 server that had IE7 but not this particular one I created the post for.

No idea then. That's worked on all our boxes. Try re-installing IE7?
