Can't install any kind of modem driver

I have a Dell Poweredge 2300 NT server, and had problems with the modem, so I removed the driver along with RAS. (maybe that was a bad idea.) Anyhow, When I try to install a modem driver (selecting the .inf file) the install process locks up. The server is still running and there is nothing in the task list. I must force a reboot to clear this process.

If I try to load RAS and the modem wizard starts up, I get the same thing. After rebooting the server, the modem will be there but I can't look at the properties because the server says it was not properly installed.

I tried

1. loading a generic driver "standard modem"
2. removing the modem out of the server
3. attaching an external modem off the com port
4. tried several different modem cards.

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

try getting the drivers from the Dell Website for that specific server. There may be a trick to the matter. Also try reloading the NT Service Pack.
