I can't hear music or background sounds on my computer. I can hear a ding when I get new mail and I can hear my computer dial up when I go on the internet. Can anyone help. I cannot get sound from my CD's or any web page sounds, music. I am running Windows XP Pro

Double check that you have not slipped onto Muted by running SndVol32 in Start Run box.

Try using System Restore to get back to when it wasn't so quiet at your place.

Your modem is probably using the inbuilt internal computer speaker which is not related to your Sound Card.
