Can't hear Greeting from PSTN to IP Phone, but I can leave a Message

I have an issue where I have CCM 4.1(2) and Unity 4.0(4) installed and configured.

When IP-PhoneA calls IP-PhoneB inside the network and there is no answer it goes to Voicemail ... I hear a Greeting ... and then I can leave a message. No problem.

However, if I make a call from the PSTN to IP-PhoneB and there is no answer it will go to Voicemail, but it will NEVER hear the greeting. However, if I just start talking, causeI am confused why I don't hear anything, it will leave a message and IP-PhoneB MWI will be on. And I can hear the message

This doesn't make any sense and I know that someone asked a similiar question. This must be pretty straight-forward and easy to fix. Please let me know what could be the problem and what I can do to fix it?

Thanks in advanced!

What type of gateway are you using? 6608 blade or IOS base? Also if you are using an IOS gateway, what code are you running?

Stay cool; it’s not over yet!

The VGWs are Cisco 2801's running 12.4(1). Actually, our IP Phones are the Branch office, which are using the WAN to place Inter-site calls, are getting the same problem where the GREETING does not play, but it will leave messages. The same problem as the PSTN calls.

In regards to MGCP, I have that enabled, but I am using TI PRI's to the PSTN and not FXO ports, where I can assign a DN to the port.

Let me know if there is anything else that I can do?

Thank you

Make sure you check the codec between Unity and IP phones. I'm assuming that you are running the default G711 for all your phones. Also check your Volume Control Gain. Please read the Link for more details

Hope this can help.

Ok, here is the update. As I discussed before, our IP Phones were unable to leave VM on IP Phones at the main site where Unity and CCM are present.

Well ... that was resolved because the Unity Server couldn't talk to the Branch office network. The things we learn. I wasn't sure if that had anything to do with it, but it worked.

However, the issue is still the same with PSTN to the IP Phone. I adjusted and played around with multiple db numbers, etc with the volume and WavGain, but ended up with the same results.

It's weird that I have PSTN CALLS going across my SIP trunk (from a SIP provider) and that WORKS with VoiceMail!!!

There must be something I am doing wrong. Please help me with this. I though it could of been a codec problem, but everything on the IPT network is g711ulaw and that was confirmed at the PSTN side. Maybe there is something I need to look at on the MGCP side?

Please help because I'm not sure where to go from here.

Thanks!
