I have a few of the 4200 series switches stacked. All have the 3.00 software update. Two are 3c17302A and one is just a 3c17302. I have no connectivity issues between computers so they appear to be functioning fine for use.

The problem is I would like to manage and monitor these via a web browser but I am having issues configuring the stack. First, when I configure the IP from Unit 1 by using the gettingStarted wizard via a telnet session I am still not able to connect to the units via a browser. The page just times out.

After attempting to access the unit with a browser I then start having problems with telnet via the console port. I am able to log into the console port, but every second or two a bunch of garbage characters gets echoed onto the screen. My screen looks like the following:

Log#@#$090u0234jnin: admin
Passwor90wej--urhjd: ****894u5poerfjaprtub***

What is strange is that the garbage being thrown up on the telnet screen does not appear to interfere with my ability to navigate the menus or control the system. If I go to the reboot menu and reboot the unit the garbage will stop until the next time I try to access the unit via the web.

I have reset the units to factory defaults a couple of times, but still can't seem to get at the unit with a web browser.

Turns out that the SLIP ip addresss was in the same subnet and changing this fixed the issue.
