For some strange reason, suddenly I can't telnet to my PIX. I can get to the router which I have to get to first in order to telnet into the PIX. From the router, if I ping the PIX it comes back fine. If it means anything, last week I changed the password on the PIX but I doubt that has anything to do with it. We had a tech at our facility restart the PIX for us, but we still can't telnet into it. Simply say's "remote host not responding"

HI.

It seems like a configuration at the pix is blocking your Telnet attempts.
Maybe when you allowed the telnet access, you did not save to flash, and now after the reboot it is blocked.

You should try to access the pix from another local host, and/or using PDM or direct console access.

A phisical visit at the site will probably be required...

Bye

Hi Yizhar..

Yep, had to physically visit my cage and troubleshoot. Wierdest situation. I have redundant 3600 series routers which are in front of my redundant PIX520 firewalls (which filter internet traffic coming into my web servers). These firewalls go to my Local Directors which are in a DMZ protected by redundant PIX515 machines. It appeared that the 520 Primary firewall failed over to the standby (for what reason, I'm not sure, and I don't know where to begin to figure out why). Anyhow, after trying to troubleshoot why we couldn't telnet to the 520's and running out of options (was weird, we could ping the devices, just kept getting "remote host not responding" messages), I decided to reboot both of the 515 firewalls. That resolved the issue ?

Question is, how did it resolve the issue ? My initial theory is the failover this morning of the 520 PIX's, caused issues with the 515 talking to the 520's ??

Anywhere I can begin to even attempt to determine how ? why ?

I have a similar question. I can ping to a host but it's not responding when i telnet it. What could be the reason?
Thanks a lot!
