hi,

I'm trying to connect IT3800 (Hand Held Products) to my PC ( 3.2 Ghz Medion running on XP Home Sp2. Connected the scanner to the free PS2 port of the keyboard. (original keyboard is connected by USB).

The scanner programmed, and it scans most barcodes. However when I use a Excel spreadsheet and try to "capture: the scanned barcode nothing happens.(no data, the scanner succesfully beeps !!)

Can anybody help me further down the barcode road here ??

Thanks
Ben

Ben,

Assuming you are using the keyboard wedge version of the scanner and it is setup properly, you will probably need to use a PS2 keyboard too. Plug the PS2 cable into the HHP 3800 wedge cable and plug the other portion of the "Y" into the computer keyboard port. This scanner inputs data into the keyboard buffer as if it were keyed in, so if you boot with a USB keyboard, my guess is the PS2 port is no longer active, hence a successful scan as evidenced by the beep but no data. I always test these conections with Notepad first just to see if they are working. If so, then try Excel. Just a guess.

Good luck,

Latenite

I just read DougP's post; I think he's right relative to sticking with the USB keyboard.
