can't get root mail to pop3 client

I am running sendmail on a 8.12 on a Solaris 9 server. I would like to download root mail so it doesn't fill but when I set up the account, I get password problems. I know the root password. All users can get their mail to a pc. Pine works fine locally. I look at the log and the

ipop3d[19812]: [ID 116098 mail.info] Command stream end of file while reading line user=root

Again I know the password is correct from /etc/passwd.

Any ideas

You can alias root to your regular user name that way all mail for root goes to your regular account.

thank. I did that already and it worked. I should have tried it before writing.
