Can't get rid of a color definition in CS 1

Here's the deal:

I imported a Quark 4 document into InDesign CS. I updated links and such. I just found (after way too much editing)that one of the CMYK swatches (named PANTONE 153) is locked into place. CS won't allow me to delete the swatch and it won't allow me to create a new one with the same name. I tried switching all colored objects to a different color and pasting them into a new document. But PANTONE 153 come back in and I can't do a thing with it.

I need to have this piece printed as a Pantone plus black not a 4-color document. Can you help?

If you click on Select All Unused in the swatches window, does it get picked? If not, something in the doc is using it - possibly somthing on the pasteboard out of view or something that was given 100% transparency.

If you go to trash a swatch that's in use in ID, you usually get a window asking about remove and replace. You can pick None from the defined swatches drop down menu.

If you still can't get rid of the thing, can you double click it to get its options box? If yes, you could change it to process black or process no color, CMYK all set to zero, and change the name. Then you could try to trash that or leave it since it won't have any effect.

I have the same problem. A co-worker said it is because the color exists in an image. She says when you ask Indesign to show you all unused swatches, it will only look at its own pages. So therefore if you have a swatch in an image only, Indd will say it is unused, but is smart enough to not let you delete it because it knows it is in use in an image.

I haven't confirmed this, but it makes sense.

ID imports specified colors with graphics. So if you had a logo in eps format that was done with, let's say C88, M22.Y34, K22, that swatch would be imported. If you have something like a tiff of a photo, the colors won't get imported.

sometimes a swatch gets used by mistake - like if you draw a box on the pasteboard while having a swatch selected as a stroke. One of my stupid stunts is to click on something with the text tool selected - leaving a tiny box. If a swatch is picked for stroke, and the stroke is narrow, I forget it's there on the pasteboard. Then, if I changs all the stroke colors in the doc, it's still calling for the old one.

It was the EPS file. Talk about frustrating. The thing was hiding out in the furthest corner of the pasteboard! As soon as I deleted it, the swatch went away.

Thanks!
