This is more of an XP/IE7 issue, but I'm hoping someone here has seen this...

I'm trying to connect from a new notebook (XP SP3) to an SBS 2003 server via Remote Web Workplace. RWW works fine when I connect from machines with IE6, however this notebook has IE7, and I cannot get the Remote Desktop ActiveX Control installed.

When I click "Connect to Client Desktop", I get the popup that says "This portion of the Remote Web Workplace requires the Microsoft Remote Desktop ActiveX Control. Your browser's security settings may be preventing you from downloading ActiveX controls. Adjust these settings...", but I am never given the option to install it.

I know that SP3 disables the Remote Desktop add-on, but it only disables it if it's present... and it's not present when I look in Add-On Manager.

I tried adding the domain to Trusted Sites > Sites (I added but this had no effect. I also went to Internet Security Settings, reset the settings to "Medium", and verified that both "Download signed ActiveX Controls" and "Download unsigned ActiveX Controls" are both set to "Prompt". Closed IE (rebooted actually), and no change.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can get this ActiveX control installed???

Save this to a reg file and run it on the client:

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{7584C670-2274-4EFB-B00B-D6AABA6D3850}]

Backup registry beforehand, etc etc usual caveats apply.

Thanks for the reply, noveyron.

I checked that, and the key was not present.

BUT... following this link

I deleted the same value from a different key:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Settings

And that worked, got the ActiveX control installed.
