A server was recently upgraded from win2k to win2k3 and after that you can't connect to it from performance monitor from a remote machine. An error message shows up saying "unable to connect to machine".

What I found in the eventlog of the server I'm trying to connect to is the followning warning:

The configuration information of the performance library "C:\winnt\system32\infoctrs.dll" for the "InetInfo" service does not match the trusted performance library information stored in the registry. The functions in this library will not be treated as trusted.

Does anyone have a clue about this?

Are u trying to run the perf monitor from a Win2K server against this Win2K3 box? It's possible that the version of IIS in Win2K3 provides new counters which cannot be monitored from a Win2K machine hence the error.

I've tried both from 2k and 2k3 but it still fails.

I can however run a WMI script from a remote server querying it for Formatted Performance data ex (Win32_PerfFormattedData_PerfProc_Process). Which is the same counters perfmon uses. So I can get the information thru WMI but not directly from perfmon.

I've been thinking about permission error but the account I'm testing with have adminidtrative access to the server so it shouldn't be a problem.
