I have two identical computers and use an SMC router to get to my COX Cable.
My wife's computer gets on internet, mine does not.
I've gone through all the cable routines and router routines. Still can't get on.
I have tried everything I know, reinstalled Windows 98SE, installed a different browser to see if it was a Internet Explorer problem, and my computers still does not get to the internet. I've switched computer locations and the one that gets on, still gets on.
I think something in config files on my computer may be screwed up. Any counsel?

I have two identical computers and use an SMC router (and a Motorola cable modem) to get to my COX internet.
One computer gets on internet, the other does not.
I've gone through all the cable routines and router routines. Still I can't get the one on line.
I have tried everything I know, reinstalled Windows 98SE, even installed a different browser to see if it was a Internet Explorer problem, and the one computer still does not get to the internet.
I've even switched the two computer locations on my home network but the one that doesn't get on-line, still didn't get on-line.
I think something in my config files on that computer may be screwed up.

Any counsel or ideas?

On your NIC card there should be some lights flashing. Are they flashing? If not try swapping the NIC.

Make sure your tcp/ip settings are set to DHCP and uncheck 'automatically detect settings' from Tools\properties then connection\lan in your internet explorer. Can both of your pc's see each other ??

Also try opening up the browser on the machines that doesnt connect and type in the ip of the router ie. chech the setup and reboot. Does this solve anything?
