I just hooked up a D-Link 704P router to my network.
My Windows XP machine can get on line just fine.
My dual boot system (Win98/WIN XP) can only get online in WIN 98. When I boot into WIN XP on the dual boot system the newtork card is functioning, because I could get online just fine if I remove the router and log into my DSL unsing the native PPPoE client, but with the router hooked up it doesn't even see the router at the default gateway of 192.168.0.1.

When I do a loopback test on the NIC I do get responses from teh NIC.

Any advise woud help.

Thanks

Steve

Make sure that both systems have unique names, and are using the same workgroup name.

They both do have unique names, and are using the same workgroup name.
The Windows XP machine that can get on the internet has a name of "Steve" and belong to the work group of "HOME".
The WIN 98/XP machine has a name of "Scohenwinxp" and belong to the workgroup of "HOME" when booted in WIN XP and "SCohenwin 98" and "HOME" when in booted in WIN 98.

This setup was working fine when I had everything connected together thru a Hub and connected 1 computer to the internet at a time.

The only this that I changed was I had the NIC's statically assigned to 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0.

When I took out the router I just set both of the NIC's to obtain everything automatically.

Thanks
