I'm trying to install a dos game on win98/se. I need 555k conventional, and EMS memory. I can't get the config file for ms-dos mode to give enough. I did have it running on win95, no problem. Win98 does give enough memory but this game has to have ms-dos mode. Any ideas? [sig][/sig]

when booting into dos make sure you dont even use the config or autoexec at all, unless there are some files that you absolutly need loaded in ortder to read a drive or something, this should give you almost completly free conventional, or you can create a boot disk (like most old Dos games recomend) and boot off the diskette then play the game, 555K is pretty high considering 640K is the limit. win 98/se dynamically allocates memory. your game need real mode memory which win98 will not give you. find yourself a copy of dos 6.22 and boot from floppy to run your game. [sig][/sig]

Hi, thanks for your suggestions. I cleared out both config & autoexec but it didn't work. The game requires only expanded memory and will not use extended at all. I'm hoping to avoid using another operating system. I have tried using the ms-dos for games with both ems & xms support (the one in the windows directory) and that didn't allow enough conventional. I would like to find a way to alter the config & autoexec in the program's properties, so I can run it straight from explore in win98. Can't figure out how though. [sig][/sig]

when we say "Real Mode" Dos, we mean you need to "Shut Down into Dos mode" or press F8 when booting the computer and chosing command prompt, running a dos game from under windows will usally result in seriously depleted conventional memory.
