i have successfully setup apache on my xp machine, and have added my index html file to the htdocs directory, but when i go to my ip address in my browser, i still get the apache confirmation page. any ideas?

zack787,

It could be one of several different things.

Have you cleared out your browser's cache? You could be seeing old information in your browser.

Did Windows add an extension to your index.html (such as index.html.txt)? This sometimes happen when you edit files in Notepad or Wordpad.

Is your index.html file in the directory specified by the DocumentRoot directive in your httpd.conf?

Have you restarted Apache since making any changes to httpd.conf?

i haven't added an extension to the file name. and the file is in the specified directory.
