I have windows XP Home, And use Norton Internet Security This is on a Dell computer with Internet Explorer using outlook Express for Email.......everytime I download Java from sun and Install.I won't be able to get my Email untill I delete the java. It will just keep tring to connect the timeout if you give it more time it will never download the Email. Any thoughs on this problem.......Thanks

I did never hear such a thing before, and can't imagine a logical reason.
What happens if you turn Norton off?
Can you monitor your computers traffic?
Look for opened ports with nmap - if possible from a second machine?

Perhaps a kind of malware, which depends on java, and is blocking something?

I can turn off norton off and install the java and it will work ok, When I turn norton back on then it will be ok for maybe 10 minutes then it will do the same thing no Email, also one thing I forgot while it is doing this you are unable to click on the norton logo on the taskbar at the bottom of screen, So you have to delete the java to get things back,But without the java installed everything works fine, Is there any other company that puts out a java that I may try,...............THANKS RED

Yes. For Linux there is gcj, but it is not that up to date like suns java.
I would ask Norton what's going on - perhaps an option you did oversee?
Windows, outlook and Norton is used by a lot of people, and a lot of them should use the Sun-Java too.

Two ideas:

- I imagine you get the Java install source from a reliable site as Sun's

- This is more a question for the XP forum, maybe people there have some ideas about this.

Cheers,
Dian
