Hi
I have a PC running XP pro on a network. My problem is it cant get automatic DHCP settings.DHCP runs on my Cisco router.I cant ping the router but can ping all other machines on the network. Please help before I reinstall windows.

Under your network connection properties sheet highlight TCP/IP, Properties, and set it to obtain an address automaticly.

The fact that you can ping all the other workstations on the lan suggests that you have a connection, not all routers will return a ping, and re-installing Windows is unlikely to solve your problem.

After checking your properties sheet, do a Start, Run, CMD
to create a dos session. From that session type:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /all

and see if you have a valid address. If the IP address is 0.0.0.0, or the ipconfig messages return any error messages from the operation, run this utility:
